About Us

At The Orders of St John Care Trust we are all about care. Genuine, quality care.

We care about our residents, their families and our communities. We also care deeply about our colleagues. Our incredible, dedicated teams of skilled and supportive colleagues who make a real difference every day in all our care homes, extra care housing schemes and offices.

The Orders of St John Care Trust has been looking after people for almost a thousand years, so we know a thing or two about providing exceptional care. In all that time, we’ve been fortunate to have employed thousands of committed, thoughtful colleagues with a shared goal.

If you think you have the right skills and attitude to deliver the very best quality of care for residents within our homes, then you could be next to join our long history of caring.

What it’s like to work for us?

Care is at the very heart of everything we do. Working in one of our care or support roles you will be continuing our history of caring that we have been doing for almost a thousand years and you will be doing this at the forefront of the service we provide to our residents. Every day is different, and each of the available roles will provide you with the opportunity of helping our residents to enjoy their lives to the full, through respect, dedication, empowerment and dignity.

The type of jobs we recruit for?

Care Assistants (Permanent hours and Flexible hours) – As a key member of the care team you will be responsible for supporting our residents on a daily basis, in order to empower them and to provide them with a service that delivers high quality care.

Deputy Domiciliary Care Manager / Care Leads – You will provide direct supervision of the care team and support to the housing and care manager with the administration of the service. Some of your key duties will include managing rotas and care visits, supervising a team of domiciliary carers, maintaining the electronic systems of care, auditing and reviewing care plans, and assisting with housing management.

Chef / Cook – You will be directly involved in meeting the dietary needs of our residents and ensure that everyone receives a high quality dining experience. You will take account of the individual needs of residents and accommodate them to match their care plans and personal preferences. To do this effectively, you will get to know the residents and build relationships with them and their families.

Kitchen Assistant – You will be supporting our chef / cook by helping to prepare meals, snacks and drinks for our residents. It will be important for you to get to know the residents and understand their likes and dislikes to make sure that they fully enjoy their dining experience.

Housekeeper – This role is absolutely critical as we negotiate our way through the current pandemic. Your dedication will be key in securing the health and safety of the residents and colleagues in your care home. You will be responsible for and take pride in maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the home to the highest standard; this may also involve helping with the laundry. You will support colleagues in welcoming residents and their family and friends to the home. You will get to know residents well and understand their preferences for their personal spaces, recognising that they may wish to help you in your daily tasks.

Administrator – As an administrator based in one of our care homes you will be key in supporting the home manager with a full range of activities to assist in the day-to-day smooth running of the home. You will usually be the first point of contact for a wide range of people, including residents, their families, external visitors such as GPs, district nurses and other health professionals, as well as our volunteers and colleagues. As the ‘face’ of the home to the outside world, it is important that you enjoy your role as ambassador for us at all times.

Activities Coordinator – It is crucial that our residents have the opportunity to take part in activities that help to preserve or increase their health and mental well- being. You will make this happen by planning stimulating and challenging activities designed to encourage the dignity, independence and satisfaction of all our residents. You will get to know our residents and tailor the activities programme around their individual needs and preferences.

Bursar – Our bursars work closely with our home managers in managing the home budgets to make sure our homes run smoothly, and so maintain the well-being of our residents. You will have direct access to our residents and support them with the day-to-day management of their finances, meeting our residents' needs with sensitivity and confidentiality.
