De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) is a dynamic institution with a long and vibrant history of improving people’s lives through education. We have invested substantially in developing our vision of a ‘campus of the future’ as part of our commitment to attract the brightest and best students, scholars and staff, both nationally and internationally. We’re proud to be a global university – one which is home to students and academic staff from more than 130 countries. With 2,700 international students, experts from around the world and global collaborations with partner institutions and organisations, DMU is truly international.Teaching Excellence
DMU is recognised as a university ranked Gold under the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The award is a recognition of the consistently outstanding teaching and learning on offer at DMU and the extraordinary impact that it has on our students.
The university consists of four faculties: Business and Law; Arts, Design and Humanities; Computing, Engineering and Media; and Health and Life Sciences. It is home to more than 20,000 students who study more than 400 courses, 170 of which are professionally accredited.
World-class research
As a university committed to the public good, we have a track record of research that impacts society and makes a real difference to people’s lives through improvements to health and well-being, infrastructure, creativity, economic growth, business and civil society. Driven by over 1,000 research students and supported by 500 staff, DMU’s research is internationally renowned and addresses some of the most critical issues affecting our world. Demonstrating the significance of this work, three key pieces of research are listed among the UK’s top 100 projects that will have a profound impact on the future, including Professor Joan Taylor’s revolutionary work to develop an artificial pancreas.
Truly international
At the heart of everything we do is our commitment to inclusivity and diversity, and a focus on career and personal development. Work experience and volunteering in the community are part of a broader focus on boosting graduate employability and enhancing the student experience. Our ground-breaking DMU Square Mile programme uses DMU’s academic expertise and a network of student volunteers to offer potentially life-changing services in the Leicester community. As the United Nations' (UN) designated Global Hub for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 - the only UK university to be designated as such - we have a commitment to address the UN SDGs in our research, teaching and enterprise activity.
